High demand of gold coins in Dubai has created a shortage at the emirate's annual shopping festival, it has emerged.

According to Business Intelligence Middle East, many gold and jewellery shops do not have enough of the precious metal to keep up with demand from customers.

A manager of jewellery firm Joy Alukkas told the news source that many stores have special offers and discounts in place during the Dubai Shopping Festival, resulting in an increase in sales and a subsequent supply shortage.

"There is a terrible shortage of gold coins. Many gold and jewellery shops in Dubai do not have the stocks," he was quoted as saying.

Pure Gold Jewellers recently announced the launch of a number of promotions as part of the Dubai Shopping Festival, offering customers discounts and free gifts on its range of products when they make purchases during the event, which runs from January 15th until February 15th.
