Alexis Minerals reports increased gold production at Lac Herbin

Alexis Minerals has announced that gold production at its Lac Herbin gold mine rose 6.6 per cent above expectations to 18,115 ounces in 2008.

According to the Toronto-based company, the wholly-owned property's costs were on budget last year and further financial details will be published next month.

During the fiscal year to December 2008, during which time Alexis became a gold producer, 83,829 tonnes of ore were mined at an average grade of 6.7 g/t gold and custom milled at the Richmont Mines Camflo Mill.

Alexis forecasts that annual gold production from Lac Herbin will reach at least 36,000 ounces in 2009 and "annually thereafter".

The company plans to continue to fund exploration activities in the Abitibi mining district of Quebec.

Exploration and development mining company Alexis is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange and is currently focused on advancing the Lac Pelletier gold property in Rouyn-Noranda, in which it has the right to earn a 100 per cent interest, towards a commercial production decision in 2009.
