Monday, 26th January 2009 (1508 views) The UK's receiver of wreck has revealed that gold nuggets were among objects reported to her during 2008.In her annual report, she explained that a total of 299 reports of wreck (droit) were received in 2008, a slight increase on the previous year, with 290 droits received, excluding the MSC Napoli. The figures refer to more than 1,500 individual items including the gold nuggets and the receiver of wreck Alison Kentuck stated that 2009 was a "busy year". In a statement she explained: "The wide range of items reported to the receiver illustrates the huge variety of goods transported by sea both today and throughout history." The receiver of wreck is charged with processing incoming reports of wreck, determining ownership, liaising with finder, owners, archaeologists and museums and assessing the importance of finds. Items reported to the receiver in the past have included bundles of wood, fixtures and fittings from vessels, bells, portholes, medieval pottery and gold coins.
