Monday, 26th January 2009 (961 views) A hoard of 24-c gold coins is the top prize at a charity gala in aid of the American Red Cross.Worth $10,000 (£7,179), the coins are part of the Gold Bonanza package at the Scootin' Boogie Bash, the Columbia County News Times reports. The money raised will go towards Red Cross activities in Columbia County, something public affairs director for the American Red Cross of Augusta Jana Hill noted has provided lifesaving skills training for 2,000 residents of the area. "During the past 15 years, many citizens of Columbia County have received Red Cross services in the form of disaster response, health and safety courses and response to Armed Forces Emergency Services," she told the news source. Corporate tables are available for $700 and seat eight people, with a Gold Bonanza package raffle ticket included in the price. Last year the event raised $45,000 for the Red Cross. Recently, the US Mint announced the arrival of a new 24-c gold coin that replicates a design from the early 1900s and is worth $1,189.
