High gold content found at in JapanThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Friday, 30th January 2009 (996 views) Sewerage at a treatment facility in Japan has been found to contain more gold than at some of the world's most productive mines, it has been claimed. The Suwa plant, which is located in central Japan, recorded a reading of 1,980g of the precious metal per tonne of waste, Reuters reports. This figure is higher than the country's Hishikari Mine and the treatment site is expected to receive five million yen (£7,700) for the find and approximately 15 million yen for its discoveries over the past fiscal year. "How much we actually receive will depend on gold prices at the time," an official for the plant said. It is thought the high gold content of the waste is due to the large number of firms in the area that use the commodity in the production of precision equipment. Elsewhere in the country, Japan's largest gold bullion house, Tanaka Kikinzoku, has stated that sales of gold coins have more than doubled in 2008.
