Monday, 23rd February 2009 (2648 views) A new gold coin has been released to coincide with the 25th silver jubilee of Brunei's National Day.The coin, which features a portrait of his majesty the sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, was created by the Brunei Currency and Monetary Board, the Borneo Bulletin reported. On sale from February 24th 2009, the 31.1g commemorative coin is made of 999.9 pure gold with a selling price of B$2,000 (£910) and a face value of B$25. Measuring 38mm in diameter, the gold coin depicts the sultan with Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien on the reverse and just 200 will be made. Established in 1967, the Brunei Currency Board has the sole right to manage and issue currency notes and coins the sultanate. Meanwhile, a limited edition 22-c gold coin has been created by the Royal Mint to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin.
