A number of gold jewellery designs have been honoured by Jewelers of America (JA) in its annual Affiliate Design Contest.

Winners for 2009 include Bill Wismar of Metal Benders Jewelry Gallery in Fairhope, Alabama, for his handmade gold fancy-link necklace and Jason Baskin of The Gem Vault in Flemington, New Jersey, who crafted a hand-engraved white gold pendant.

Randall R Hurt of AVA Goldworks was also honoured for his yellow and white gold pendant, while the Buyer’s Choice prize went to Mark Abbott of Mark Abbott Jewelers in Ohio for a white gold opal, jade and diamond pendant.

John Green of Lux Bond and Green, JA chairman, stated: "Each year, the Jewelers of America affiliate design competition showcases the exceptional talent that can be found at JA-member jewellery stores throughout the country."

The 19th annual Affiliate Design Contest took place at the JA New York show last month and was judged by a panel of industry experts.

JA has launched a new campaign against state luxury tax proposals on jewellery and watches in New York and Illinois.
