A number of gold pieces have been included in an auction of items by world-famous jewellers and watchmakers.

South Florida's prestigious Bal Harbour Shops has donated jewellery to the Destination Fashion 2009 silent auction, highlights of which include a white-gold Grassland Skirt ring from De Beers, a yellow gold Cartier Ballon Bleu de Cartier automatic watch and a Piaget Lime Light 'Funny Heart' 18-c yellow gold pendant.

Both in 18-c rose gold, a Pomellato ring and a 'Classic 1900' Belmont Tourneau watch are both included in the sale and supporters and shoppers can bid on items in Bal Harbour Shops' participating stores.

Expected to generate more than $250,000 (£174,500), proceeds of the auction, which closes on March 7th, will be donated to the Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis.

Suzie Sayfie, executive director of the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, said: "The unprecedented generosity and commitment shown by Bal Harbour Shops' collection of stores is remarkable and truly a testament to the longevity and reputation of its luxury brands."

In other news, a number of pieces crafted from gold were sold at the Grand Palais de Paris this week as part of a high-profile sale of items owned by Pierre Berge and Yves Saint-Laurent.
