Friday, 27th February 2009 (2070 views) Gold treasures from the Afghan National Museum in Kabul will go on display at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, Texas, from March 1st 2009.The exhibition includes 228 intricate gold ornaments and other ancient items that reflect the rich heritage of Afghanistan, many of which were believed to have been lost or looted from the country, the Houston Chronicle reported. Museum of Fine Arts curator Fredrik Hiebert said: "Every time I look at these objects, I feel that I'm looking at something that is so special, because it shouldn't be here." Entitled Afghanistan: Hidden Treasures From the National Museum, Kabul, the show forms part of a tour organised by the National Geographic Society and the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC. Running until May17th in Houston, the exhibition of Afghan treasures consists of items unearthed by a Soviet archaeological expedition and Afghan researchers in 1978 at a site called Tillya Tepe, 220 miles north-west of Kabul.
