Thursday, 26th March 2009 (883 views) A number of new gold coins depicting the zodiac sign Gemini have been issued in Armenia, it has emerged.The Central Bank of Armenia has introduced 10,000 of the pieces, which carry a face value of AMD 10,000 (£18.70) and have been produced as part of the Zodiac Signs international numismatic programme, PanArmenian.net reports the Central Bank of Armenia as stating. Each of the gold items weighs 8.6g and is 22mm in diameter, with the obverse of the coin featuring the state emblem of the country, the face value of the currency and the date it was issued. Designed by Ursula Valejzac and produced by the Mint of Poland, the reverse features Gemini against the backdrop of a starlit sky. In related news, US congressman Christopher Carney has proposed that gold coins are introduced in 2011 to honour the country's army, navy and air force, Stars and Stripes reports.
