Friday, 24th April 2009 (821 views) A gold coin produced in India to market the coronation of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is expected to sell for 400,000 Indian rupees (£5,489) at an auction beginning today (April 24th).The Gold Hoan is among 650 rare items of currency going under the hammer in Mumbai, along with a coin made from the precious metal depicting King Ibrahim Shah of Kashmir. According to the Indian Express, the event is taking place at the city's Tejpal Galleries, and is being held alongside the 18th annual Shukla Day Coin Fair 2009. Organiser of the sale Malcolm Todywalla told the news source that the event will help form connections between sellers and buyers who would otherwise be unable to contact each other. "All these rare items come from one of three sources - people who own old coins belonging to their families for several generations, old collectors and jewellers who get these coins," he added. In related news, a Polish gold coin produced in 1925 is up for sale at an auction in Rosemont, Illinois this weekend.
