Gold coin donated to Pittsburgh charityThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Monday, 27th April 2009 (609 views) A solid gold coin worth $900 (£617) has been anonymously donated to a charity in the US city of Pittsburgh.According to wpxi.com, the South African Krugerrand, which was manufactured in 1979, was put in a collection jar left by not-for-profit organisation Friends of the Park as part of a 'pennies for the pool' fundraiser. The donation of the coin is a "big boost" to the Zelienople Community Park, Pool and Fireworks Fund, the news source stated, as a lack of available money has left the park in "dire straits", with the annual firework display under threat. South African Krugerrands were recently identified by one gold expert as an ideal choice for investors seeking to safeguard their funds during the recession. Mike Temple of Gold Investments described coins made from the precious metal as an "excellent" choice in the present financial crisis, as it has performed better than assets such as property since the onset of the downturn.
