Monday, 27th April 2009 (620 views) The day of Akshaya Tritiya has helped boost the sale of gold across India, it has been suggested.Seen as an ideal time to start a new beginning, the one-day celebration - which takes place today - is associated with the purchasing of precious items. And Joy Alukas, chairman of the eponymous jewellery firm, told Emirates Business that sales have been "going up" in the days preceding the event. "Last year, our sales were up by 100 per cent and this year too, we are confident of achieving the same level," he was quoted as saying. General manager of the company Tomy Joseph added that it has been running a promotional campaign in order to boost sales of the precious metal, noting that the business has been giving priority to sales volumes with "attractive" offers. Mumbai-based IndusInd Bank recently told Reuters that it expects to sell approximately 150kg of the precious metal during the festival.
