Tuesday, 28th April 2009 (4265 views) An Indian temple sold two, five and ten gram gold coins during the Akshaya Tritiya festival.The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) announced that gold coins of Lord Balaji and Goddess Padmavathi were available from its information centre on April 27th. TTD manages the temple at Tirumala and sold gold coins during the festival to devotees who flocked to the complex to mark the religious event. The temple of Sri Venkateswara is located on the Tirupati Hill and is visited by thousands of people every day. Akshaya Tritiya is an annual Hindu festival during which gold purchases are traditionally made, as they are thought to bring luck, success and prosperity. In related news, Pinakin Vyas, chief manager treasury of IndusInd Bank, told Reuters that his company expects to sell around 150kg of gold during Akshaya Tritiya. The Mumbai-based bank hopes to maintain its sales of gold coins over the religious period at the same rates as 2008.
