Wednesday, 20th May 2009 (595 views) A solid gold Victorian watch is among the buried items that have been discovered in Herefordshire by a gardener.Jan Long, 57, found a range of antique pieces underneath her garden in Ledbury, including a gold engagement ring, Roman coins, medals and brooches. "Nearly every time I am out in the garden I make a new find," she told the Daily Telegraph, adding that her first discovery was made six years ago when she unearthed a number of Roman bottles. Ms Long, who is planning to restore the gold watch to its original condition, said that she has "really loved" finding the antiques in the garden of her farmhouse, which dates back around 500 years. In related news, gold coins that were discovered over 30 years ago in a hedge in North Yorkshire recently fetched £6,400 at auction. The items, which were located by two schoolgirls in 1974, were expected to sell for between £5,000 and £6,000.
