A church volunteer who lost his gold wedding ring in Rochester, Minnesota, has seen it resurface in Africa.

Bob Mack, 59, was helping to pack a container bound for a new hospital in Guinea when the piece of jewellery slipped off his finger, the Rochester Post Bulletin reports.

He realised that it was missing just hours after the cargo left Rochester and had to wait until it had completed its voyage before he received news that the ring had been found.

The sealed 20ft container arrived at its destination and the item was discovered among medical supplies donated by the Mayo Clinic to Compassion Evangelical Hospital.

Mr Mack, who has been married for 39 years, told the news source that a group of volunteers are visiting Guinea this autumn and will bring the gold ring back with them.

In other news, a 116-year-old gold sports ring was found in an attic in Canada and sold at auction for more than C$60,000 (£33,587), the Canwest News Service reported.
