An 18-c gold cuff bracelet is to go under the hammer today (June 24th).

The item is one of the highlights of a jewellery collection on offer at the Kimball's Auction and Estate Services sale in the US state of Massachusetts, Live Auctions reports.

Discussing the history of the piece, Douglas Kimball, spokesperson for the sales room, said: "It was an Edwardian brooch that someone attached to a gold cuff bracelet.

"It's certainly a married piece but very beautiful."

The sale will take place at 169 Meadow Street, North Amherst in Kimball's new 6,500 sq ft gallery.

Recent auctions have seen gold items sell for six-figure sums. Earlier this month, Agence-France Press reported that a gold statue owned by Japanese designer Kenzo Takada was purchased for €108,500 (£92,000).

Meanwhile, two Patek Philippe gold watches were bought for $250,000 (£152,000) and $130,000 respectively at an Antiquorum sale in New York.
