Sales of American Eagle gold coins in the US have risen over the past week, new figures have revealed.

Data from the US Mint has shown that sales of the coin climbed by 25,000 pieces over the course of the past seven days.

According to Coin News, this means that 93,000 of the items had been sold in the country as of last Monday (June 22nd).

Writing for Numismaster, coin expert Davis Harper noted that the sales for June so far have already exceeded the total purchased last month.

"These aren't weekly records, but it does show that demand is not falling off a cliff," he stated.

American Eagle coins, which are a popular choice among collectors, are currently priced from $134.50 (£81.50) for a one-tenth ounce uncirculated coin.

Prices rise to $1,024.95 for a one-ounce gold proof example and a number of other weights are also available.
