Friday, 26th June 2009 (625 views) The People's Bank of China (PBoC) is to issue commemorative gold coins to mark next year's World Expo, which is taking place in Shanghai.It has announced a range of coins made from the precious metal in order to mark the event, which is expected to attract around 70 million visitors, Coin News reports. The obverse of the gold piece - which has a 150 yuan (£13.30) face value - features the World Expo logo showing three people holding hands, while the reverse depicts Haibao, a mascot designed for the event. 'World Expo 2010 Shanghai' is also inscribed in Chinese on the reverse side, while the obverse features the words 'People's Republic of China'. They are due to be distributed by the Chinese Gold Coin Incorporation and 50,000 are to be jointly minted by the Shenyang Mint, the Shanghai Mint and the Shenzhen Guobao Mint. This is the second gold coin to be launched by the PBoC in recent days, as it has also announced the introduction of a new piece made from the precious metal that marks the 30th anniversary of the first commemorative gold coin to be made available in the country.
