A top designer who is set to showcase his wares at the upcoming New York Fashion Week has emphasised the importance of owning gold jewellery.

Speaking to the Providence Jewelry Examiner, Carmen Marc Valvo explained that gold has an "eternal allure" that has always intrigued him, stating that the precious metal is "unquestionably the ultimate investment".

He added: "Fashion and accessories, at their best, bring out the poise within ourselves to take on life's challenges."

Valvo will accentuate his spring/summer 2010 designs with gold jewellery at New York Fashion Week, which takes place between September 10th and 17th.

His collection will include garments made from gold-embellished silk and suede, as well as a range of swimwear and glitzy cocktail dresses and evening gowns.

Last year's fall event saw the likes of Calvin Klein, Anna Sui, DKNY, Herve Leger, Matthew Williamson and Ralph Lauren show off their designs for the 2009 season.
