Tuesday, 28th July 2009 (970 views) A "comprehensive holding" of more than 150 gold coins known as the Annapolis collection is set to be featured on the auction block at the American Numismatic Association (ANA) World's Fair of Money next month.Greg Reynolds of Numismatic News noted that the collection has been "cherished for years" and contains gold coins dating from 1837 to 1932. The collector - known as Mr Annapolis to protect his anonymity - has acquired an "impressive type set" and the holding contains "an especially noteworthy collection of Indian Head half eagles", Mr Reynolds commented. "Consignments of true collections, however imperfect, are often characterised by stories, themes, emotions and numismatic goals," he stated, adding that Mr Annapolis' penchant for matte proof gold is evident in the items that have been amassed. The ANA World's Fair of Money is set to take place in Los Angeles, California from August 5th to 9th. It claims to be the largest show of its type in the world and more than 100 exhibits at the event will feature some of the most valuable and historic coins from around the globe that rarely appear in public displays.
