Tuesday, 28th July 2009 (2691 views) A collection of lavish gold statues and objects from Cairo's Egyptian Museum have gone on display at the de Young Museum in San Francisco.Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs is the name of the exhibition, which has been described by Stephen West from Bloomberg as a "blockbuster" museum show. Among the items that once belonged to Egypt's 18th dynasty is a canopic coffinette that housed the mummified organs of Tutankhamun. Made from gold and inlaid with precious stones, the item was found in his treasure-filled tomb in the Valley of the Kings. Other everyday objects, including an inlaid board game and a crafted child's chair, are also on display. Young Tutankhamun was one of the last kings of the dynasty and he died nine years into his reign, at the age of 18, under suspicious circumstances. The museum, in Golden Gate Park, will keep the items on display until March 28th next year.
