A gold watch given to Elvis Presley by his father is currently on sale through an online auction of celebrity memorabilia.

The 14-c gold Baume & Mercier watch was presented to Presley on January 8th 1969, the singer's birthday.

An inscription on the back of the watch reads 'To EP, From Daddy, 1-08-69'. Presley gave the watch away to his cousin several years after first receiving it.

The item is part of a large collection of celebrity belongings being auctioned by Gotta Have It Collectibles.

It is estimated to be worth in the region of $9,000 to $11,000 (£5,474 to £6,691) and is described as being in "beautiful condition".

The auction ends on August 5th and other items open to bidding include a jacket worn by John Lennon, Bob Dylan's original lyrics for A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall and a handwritten letter sent by Janis Joplin to her boyfriend.

Gotta Have It Collectibles was founded in 1994 and has previously partnered with Sothebys for celebrity auctions of items belonging to stars such as Madonna and The Beatles.
