Traditional gold items were among the most popular pieces shown at the recent JA New York Summer Show.

Attendees at the trade event seemed to prefer "familiar" gold jewellery over items made from alternative metals, according to National Jeweler.

This points "to the thought that both consumers and retailers aren't as willing to take a gamble on pieces that are not tried-and-true sellers in their stores", the publication said.

Some of the gold pieces on show included a miniature version of peacock earrings from Zil and a range of 18-c gold rings from Gumuchian set with precious stones.

Gold chains were particularly prevalent at the JA New York Summer Show thanks to the versatility of this particular style, designers exhibiting at the event said.

The show ran from July 26th to 29th at the Javits Convention Center. It sees thousands of attendees every year and regularly showcases new jewellery design talent through the New Designer Gallery.
