A number of Indian jewellers are offering sales on their gold jewellery ahead of the Raksha-bandhan festival next week.

Cygnus is giving shoppers a discount of up to 50 per cent on its 18-c jewellery, which includes necklaces, bangles, bracelets, earrings, pendants and rings, according to Diamond World magazine.

Elsewhere, jewellery brand Popely is also running a promotion for its range of 22-c jewellery for the festival.

Its gold pieces include chains, charms, pendant and earring sets, bracelets, rings and earrings, among others.

Raksha-bandhan is an annual event celebrating the bond between brother and sister.

Set to take place on August 5th, the festival involves the tradition of the sister tying a fabric bracelet around her brother's wrist and feeding him sweets, while the brother promises to protect his sibling and offers her gifts in return.

The day can be celebrated by cousins and other close relations in addition to brothers and sisters.
