Indian gold jewellers look to direct-to-home sellingThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Thursday, 27th August 2009 (3397 views) A growing number of jewellers in India are looking to sell their gold pieces to consumers directly within their homes.According to the Times of India, jewellers are increasingly going straight to customers rather than waiting for shoppers to visit their stores to offer a unique buying experience where the whole family can see specific items and try them on at home. Retailers are primarily targeting high net worth families and individuals, with customers able to specify that particular pieces are brought to their homes at certain times. "Unlike in a jewellery outlet, the customer gets exclusive attention at home. The conversion rate of this two-month-old scheme is very satisfactory," remarked Anil Karumbaya, head of marketing for Bangalore jeweller C Krishniah Chetty & Sons. India is the biggest consumer of gold in the world. Indian jewellers are currently experiencing growth in demand for gold jewellery as part of the current festival and wedding season in the country, during which gold gifts are commonplace.
