Monday, 26th October 2009 (2868 views) Gold items created by Spanish surrealist artist Salvador Dali have gone on display in Paris to mark the 20th anniversary of his death. The Espace Dali gallery's Dali d'Or-Objets Montes (Dali Gold-Mounted Objects) exhibition runs until January 20th and consists of a series of gold coins and jewelled sculptures in the artist's unique style. Most of these were designed during the 1960s and include gold representations of recognisable objects from Dali's paintings, such as an 18-c gold 'melting clock' sculpture decorated with rubies and diamonds, Art Daily reports. The gold coins on display each feature portraits of himself or his wife, Gala, who served as Dali's muse for much of his career. Other items on show in the exhibition include pendants and sculptures such as the Tortoise Porte-Dali-Bonheur, the Soft Watch, the Triumphant Elephant and the Space Venus. Dali was born in 1904 and died of heart failure in January 1989. He worked across a variety of media, including photography, oil paintings, watercolours, film and graphic design.
